As the name suggests, the engine start-stop system automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle temporarily stops during driving (for example, at a red light). When it is necessary to move forward, the system automatically restarts the engine.
For models equipped with automatic transmissions, the working principle of the automatic start-stop system is as follows:
While driving, as long as the brake pedal is pressed directly, the engine will automatically shut off about two seconds after the vehicle comes to a complete stop. If you keep pressing the brake pedal, the engine will remain off. Once you release the brake or turn the steering wheel, the engine will automatically ignite, and you can immediately accelerate to start, with the entire process in D gear.
To solve the problem of fatigue from pressing the brake, as long as the AUTOHOLD electronic handbrake is also activated, the engine will only lightly press the accelerator in the Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
After starting the board, the right foot does not need to stay on the brake.
or vibration
The engine start-stop system has rapidly developed as an automotive environmental protection technology in recent years, especially suitable for stop-and-go urban conditions. It is estimated that in 2012, 50% of new cars launched in Europe will be equipped with start-stop systems. This system can achieve a fuel-saving capability of 15% under urban conditions.
Working principle of engine start-stop technology
The working principle of the start-stop system is that when the vehicle stops due to congestion or at an intersection, the driver presses the brake pedal, stops, and engages the gear. At this point, the Start/Stop system automatically detects: the engine is idling and not in gear; the anti-lock braking system's wheel speed sensor shows zero; the electronic battery sensor indicates sufficient energy for the next start. Once these three conditions are met, the engine automatically stops running.
When the traffic light turns green, the driver presses the disengagement device, then can activate the "start limiter" and quickly start the engine. The driver engages the gear and accelerates, allowing the vehicle to start quickly. With the support of efficient battery technology and corresponding engine management programs, the start-stop system can also operate normally at lower temperatures and can be activated after a brief preheating process.
Note:
While driving, as long as the brake pedal is pressed directly, the engine will automatically shut off about two seconds after the vehicle comes to a complete stop. If you keep pressing the brake pedal, the engine will remain off. Once you release the brake or turn the steering wheel, the engine will automatically ignite, and you can immediately accelerate to start, with the entire process in D gear.
